About TripRelay

Standard boilerplate — free to quote

TripRelay is a free group trip planning app that lets friends vote on destinations, restaurants, and activities, then automatically turns the group’s choices into a shared itinerary. A traveler creates a shared trip room and invites friends by link — no account is required to join. The group votes on candidate places by swiping through them, and TripRelay turns those votes into a day-by-day itinerary the whole group had a say in, plus a shareable trip teaser. TripRelay is free to use for travelers. It does not book flights, hotels, or process payments for trips.

TripRelay launches a self-serve portal for local businesses

TripRelay opened a business portal that lets restaurants, bars, tours, and attractions claim how they appear inside the app’s destination voting deck, upload their own photos and description, and see how travelers responded to their listing. Plans start at $10 a month.

  • Businesses manage their own card content: tagline, description, photos, contact details, and a special offer shown to traveler groups.
  • A performance dashboard reports how many travelers saw the listing and how they voted, counted from real in-app activity.
  • Paid plans change how a business presents itself and what it can see. They do not buy ranking — TripRelay does not sell placement in traveler results or generated itineraries.
  • A published Business Partner Agreement governs the relationship, including an explicit statement that TripRelay guarantees no clicks, bookings, or revenue.

Generated itineraries now read like planned days, not stop lists

TripRelay’s itinerary generator gained a set of passes that shape each day as a coherent chapter of a trip rather than a spatially optimized list of stops.

  • A day-coherence pass prevents scattered stops from being packed into a single criss-crossing day, keeping each day anchored to one area or one genuine day-trip corridor.
  • Landmarks that are experienced in transit — bridges, scenic drives — are folded into the travel leg with a note rather than scheduled as timed stops.
  • When a group’s votes show real nightlife interest, one day is shaped as a later-start, later-finish evening, followed by a slower next morning.
  • Day labels are derived from what was actually scheduled, so a label can never describe a day the itinerary does not contain.

Tour suggestions became contextual to what a group voted for

TripRelay replaced a generic list of bookable tours with suggestions tied to the specific places a traveler said yes to, each shown with the reason it was suggested.

  • Tours are matched against a traveler’s own picks and captioned with the place that prompted them, for example “Because you liked the Historic District.”
  • When no genuine match exists, no tour is suggested at all.
  • Tours are supplied through Viator, a Tripadvisor company, and the partnership is disclosed where tours appear.
Reliability

Self-healing photo pipeline for destination imagery

TripRelay rebuilt how destination photos are fetched and cached so that expired image references recover automatically instead of leaving blank cards.

  • When a stored photo reference expires, the system requests a current one for the same place and caches the result.
  • Photos are optimized and served from a CDN cache, so repeat views cost nothing additional.
  • Places without usable imagery fall back to a neutral image rather than a broken card.

Public trip Explore feed and traveler leaderboard

TripRelay added a public feed where travelers can publish a finished itinerary for others to browse and copy, along with a leaderboard ranking planners by how much their published trips get viewed and reused.

  • Published trips can be copied by other travelers as the starting point for their own plan.
  • A per-room group leaderboard shows which members have finished voting, to help groups converge.
